Term Time

Pupils Move Into BSF Leicester's First Schools

16 September 2009
  • Term time starts with fresh and exciting new facilities for students at Soar Valley College and Fullhurst Community College, the first schools to be completed under BSF Leicester, and designed by ADP, in partnership with Miller Construction.

Both schools are a key part of the transformation of the local area, providing a host of new facilities for students and the local community alike. In particular, they provide opportunities for adult learners to enjoy the same excellent facilities as pupils, and will provide ‘wrap-around’ care for students outside normal school hours.

At Soar Valley, ADP’s landscape architecture team have created rich and varied opportunities for outdoor learning, providing individual ‘micro climates’ than include an Ecology Garden, a Reflection Garden and an Allotment Garden. These different spaces recognise that not all education goes on in the classroom, and that innovative external spaces promote positive peer interaction as well as providing new chances for more traditional subjects to utilise the great outdoors.

ADP’s design for Fullhurst Community College, meanwhile, dealt directly and sensitively with the need to provide safe and secure environments for pupils, free of bullying and intimidation. Improved, well-considered circulation, and grand atria spaces, suffuse the school with light and create a positive sense of transparency.
